KIRK PENGILLY PORTRAIT-3
The two sides of Kirk Pengilly. Standing in the light but so often overshadowed. The guy from INXS with the glasses and the mo. He w as the one that played the sax, right? The bright lights, the music so quintessentially Australian, the eventual tragedy. That’s one side. Only one dimension.
The Kirk I met is a down-to-earth, genuine kind of guy. He picked me up from the ferry to do his sitting, offered me tea and spoke to me with candour about the ups and downs of his life. The man has lived. Personal and professional tragedies and triumphs. And of course, all of those details that really make a man – he loves his wife, enjoys cooking thai food, pottering in his garden, having a wine while he folds the washing. The real things. The things that make a man of substance.
This painting is a representation of the light and shade, ebbs and flows of the life of a man…
