Soft beats waft in on the summer breeze. The air is thick and balmy as I lay slumped on the couch. I strain my gaze across to you, sitting nearby, unaware. I survey the sight in total bewilderment; who is this stranger in my lounge room, messing up the view and taking up space? The fan does little to help me as the sweat beads across my brow, as my glazed stare assesses you. Your face is pale, bland and slathered in foundation, trying without success to conceal your short comings as a human being. Your greed and obsession with image fails to impress me. Your desperately-clung-to facade wanes paper thin, gathering strength only to grab at my attention when it wanders.
The constant grind of your voice reverberates down my spine and irritates me, distracting me from my chilled out state. I am desperately in need of diversion, someone else to ‘PLAY ME ANOTHER TUNE.’ I am sick of this same old track! So, for the moment, all I get is the monotony of those lips that I have seen beyond too often, moving as they always have, harshing my buzz. I fade out and seek some solace in those soft, sultry beats, drifting in from some place far away. And time seems to float endlessly by.
The failings of your humanity have led me to paint this piece. My mind is now distorted, filled with rage, pain, despair and total bewilderment at you lack of understanding. Forget about your bloody handbags and matching shoes and try finding some substance! While you’re at it, forget about me. I’m walking away.
